Remote Business Development Representative
Position Summary
Downtown Decorations is looking for an entry-level sales representative to support outbound outreach and lead development, with an initial focus on light pole banner sales.
This role will initially focus on foundational sales support work; cleaning up and updating customer lists, organizing contact information, researching target accounts, and conducting initial outreach to prospective customers across a range of industries. The goal is to build stronger targeted lists, create more consistent top-of-funnel activity, and identify business development opportunities for the organization.
While this is an entry-level role, there is an opportunity for growth within the organization to a higher-level sales position over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, organize, and update existing customer and contact lists
- Work through old accounts and legacy lists to clean up contact data and identify outreach opportunities
- Build targeted prospect lists by market, geography, and customer type
- Research new prospects for light pole banners, including municipalities, downtown organizations, shopping centers, property managers, colleges, and other relevant buyer types
- Identify key contacts within target organizations, such as city managers, downtown directors, marketing contacts, procurement contacts, and other decision-makers
- Make initial outreach efforts by email and phone to introduce Downtown Decorations and identify level of interest
- Send basic sales materials and company information to prospects and existing customers
- Track outreach activity, contact updates, and responses in the company’s systems
- Qualify early interest and hand off warm opportunities to the appropriate internal salesperson
- Help maintain clean, accurate sales and contact data for future campaigns
- Support broader outbound sales and list-development efforts as needed
What Success Looks Like
In the beginning, success in this role is less about closing large deals and more about building discipline and momentum in the sales process. Success would look like:
- Contact lists are cleaner, more accurate, and easier to work from
- Old customers are being reintroduced to the company and updated materials
- Target lists are being built consistently for new outreach
- Outreach activity is happening regularly, not sporadically
- Warm leads and interested prospects are being surfaced and handed off internally
- The role begins to create a repeatable outbound process that can grow over time
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for someone who is:
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Comfortable navigating incomplete, unstructured, and outdated data sets
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Comfortable with repetitive, process-driven work
- Persistent and not discouraged by non-responses, dead ends, or slow follow-up
- Personable and professional on both email and phone
- Comfortable making outbound calls and sending outreach emails
- Resourceful in finding the right contacts through websites, directories, LinkedIn, and other sources
- Coachable and open to learning
- Comfortable qualifying interest and handing opportunities off internally
- Interested in growing into a larger sales role over time
You do not need to be an experienced salesperson to excel in this role. Successful candidates could include those with the following experience:
- Entry-level BDR / SDR experience
- Customer service
- Inside sales
- Recruiting
- Fundraising or appointment-setting
- Administrative roles with strong follow-through and communication

- Someone who is primarily focused on closing deals and is not interested in foundational or early‑stage work
- Someone who becomes disengaged with repetitive or process‑driven tasks
- Someone who requires constant oversight or direction to remain productive
- Someone who is uncomfortable with frequent outbound calling
- Someone seeking a highly strategic or highly creative role at the outset role right away
