Every year, Downtown Decorations makes the journey to Christmasworld in Frankfurt, Germany for a tradeshow hosted by Messe Frankfurt, and each visit delivers something that stops us in our tracks. This is not just a trade show. It is the world’s most extraordinary celebration of festive design, where 4,636 exhibitors from 170 countries fill 3,690,000 square feet with the boldest, most beautiful ideas the season has ever seen. But here is what most people don’t realize: what happens at Christmasworld does not stay at Christmasworld. The trends, the colors, the textures and the stories that debut in Frankfurt each year have a way of rippling far beyond Christmas; they metabolize into trends you’ll see in streetscapes, homes and storefronts next season. This year was no different, and what we brought home is already shaping what you will find right here, right now.
On behalf of Messe Frankfurt, trend scouts from the agency Stilbüro bora.herke.palmisano research and define the “official” trend themes for each season. The highly anticipated 2026 trend directions — Brave, Light, and Solid — were introduced as a “Modern Fairytales” theme for décor. Let’s dive into these core concepts and see how they translate directly into your spring and summer planning. “The three trend worlds are united by one guiding principle: be responsible and connected with nature and optimistic about the future.” –Claudia Herke, Trend Expert, Stilbüro bora.herke.palmisano
Brave
Brave is about dynamic contrast and bold storytelling — warm, earthy tones paired with unexpected pops of color, retro-inspired forms placed alongside vivid modern finishes, and figurative motifs that make people stop and feel something.

This is the Giant Flower trend made official. Our Masson collection, with seven petal styles, bold color choices, and the ability to combine forms into unexpected arrangements, is the definition of Brave in practice. Picture oversized blooms in saturated fuchsias and tangerines cascading overhead, or mixed arrangements that layer large statement flowers with smaller accent pieces to create a dynamic, layered visual.

Brave also encourages figurative storytelling, a principle we practice when helping our clients conceptualize their displays. For our animal lovers, the Topiary animals are a unique way to showcase community and environmental pride. From a 14-foot giraffe to a roaming T-Rex, these showstopping displays are bold, character-driven installations that create narratives in public spaces. Brave is the answer to any client who wants their streetscape to be talked about.

Light
Light is the airy, translucent, emotionally warm counterpart to Brave’s boldness. Transparent and frosted materials, organic shapes that seem to float, gentle refractions, and a palette of soft pastels and natural tones.

Walking the floor at Christmasworld, we felt the quiet pull of this trend immediately with our string lights. Versatile by nature, string lights are a year-round solution for capturing that soft, luminous atmosphere this trend is all about. Clients can program the lights to any color palette, so as trends evolve, your lights can evolve with it. Draped across a plaza, woven through park trees, or strung along a building facade, Downtown Decorations Inc string lights cast a gentle, warm glow that draws visitors effortlessly. Who doesn’t love a string light moment?

Solid
Solid is the grown-up of the three. Clean geometry, modular and repeatable systems, durable materials built to last — with sustainability as a genuine design value, not an afterthought. Pure white as a base, metallic accents, architectural structure. The message to municipalities, BIDs, and property managers: invest in things that hold up, look intentional, and can be reconfigured year over year.

The Solid trend mirrors exactly how we think about our large display collections. This is décor built to last, to anchor a space and to earn its place year after year. From the commanding presence of our Design Stars, available in sizes ranging from 4.5 feet all the way up to 20 feet, to the clean sculptural forms of our Orbs available in five sizes, these are installations that mean business, designed to stay as solid as your city.

At Downtown Decorations, our products and services are intentionally crafted to honor art and nature. Whether it is the sculptural permanence of a Design Star anchoring a city plaza, or the bold, living energy of a Masson flower canopy drawing a crowd, every piece we create is designed with purpose, with longevity and with genuine joy in mind.
Christmasworld reminded us, as it does every year, that the world’s best designers are thinking beyond seasons and beyond single moments. They are thinking about how spaces make people feel, and how décor can connect a community to something larger than itself. That is the work we show up to do every day, and we cannot wait to help you bring it to life this spring and summer.
